Robert was born on 10 MAR 1781 in Maybole, the son of Thomas McCreath and Mary McCreath.

His wife was Agnes Campbell, who he married on 18 JUN 1805 in Kirkoswald, Ayr. Their seven known children were David Campbel (1807-1849), James (1810-1867), Margaret Hannah (1812-?), Mar (1814-?), Ann (1817-?), Joh (1819-?) and Agnes (c1829-1879).
