A number of attempts have been made to to have the Sir John Maxwell building saved for posterity, including in:

November 2016 

Attempt led by Stewart McDonald SNP MP to have the building granted listed status – as part of a concern for the wider built heritage of the city’s southside.

July 2018

Facebook Page Created. To date it has received 390 likes.

An on-line petition was launched. It was signed by 261 people. 

August 2018

Representation made to the City’s Community Empowerment Committee.  Councillors backed proposals to work  with community representatives. 

The chairman of the Community Empowerment Committee is reported as having said: 

“I think we have to make every effort to maintain that building given the history of the Maxwell family, what they did for this city and why we named it after them.

“At the very least we could make this building secure and charge any working group that comes of this to find the money to make it wind and watertight and thereafter find a use for it.”
