Donald Maxwell Macdonald with Stewart McDonald MP at the House of Commons

Following a meeting between Donald Maxwell Macdonald (grandson of Sir John Stirling Maxwell) and Stewart McDonald MP the following important message of support was received:

“For well over a century, the present school has served and educated thousands of local people, and deepened the connection between our family within the Pollok estate and the communities of Pollokshaws.

“We are delighted to support the initiative to try and find a use for the school opened by my grandfather, Sir John Maxwell in 1909.

“Our family took its responsibility towards the local area very seriously, none more so than in the provision of education, and we wish to continue that by ensuring there is future for the former school, and that it continues to serve the people of Pollokshaws and the surrounding areas.”

“We commend the local community for their endeavours to save this building from demolition, and we look forward to seeing what support Glasgow City Council bring forward – as the organisation currently responsible for the building – in order to find a use for this iconic building.”
