William Bain McCreath (Bill), an Engineer to trade, served his time at the locomotive works of Dubs and Company at Polmadie, Glasgow. By the time Bill had been apprenticed the company had become part of the North British Locomotive Company.  Locally the name Dubs Works long persisted.

Later, Bill found his way into the retail shoe trade. Following a sojourn in South Shields Bill returned to Glasgow where, on 8 August 1933, he (age  28) married Margaret (Peggy) Simpson (27) at Newhall Parish Church.

In due course they owned a shoe shop at 7 Dalrymple Street, Girvan (opposite the then King’s Arms Hotel), and lived in the flat above. They had no children.

Bill was a prominent member of Girvan Bowling Club.

On retiral they moved to East Kilbride, and following Bill’s death in 1971 Peggy moved to Aberdeen to be with her sister, Ethel.  Peggy passed away on 22 March 1997 at Aberdeen

Ethel had been their bridesmaid.  Their best man was Bill’s brother Robert.

Following Peggy’s death, her niece, Rosemary, sent me Bill and Peggy’s family photo album – from which the above images were extracted.
