James McCreath was a farmer. He was born in March 1807 at Burnmouth, Maybole

At the time of his death in The Western Infirmary, Glasgow aged 75, he and his second wife, Jean Allan resided at 9 Port Street. By this time he had given up the tenancy of the farm. His death certificate records the names of both of his spouses – 1st Mary Dickson, 2nd Jean Allan. James’ parents are given as Thomas McCreath (Farmer) and Annie McCreath (ms Dickson).
In 1841, he was living at Sandyford. Occupation – ‘Cow Feeder’. The family is listed:

In 1851, James, by then a ‘Dairy Man’ was resident at Kelvingrove Road. The family is listed as:

It can be concluded that James’ first wife, Margaret Dickson, died between 1841 and 1845.
The 1861 Census records, James, his second wife (Jean Allan) and the family living at Stobcross House, Anderston; and in 1871 at Stobcross Farm Houses. On the death certificate of his daughter, Helen Allan McCreath (who died before her second birthday in 1864), James describes himself as a “Farmer of the Lands of Stobcross”.
