James McCreath married Mary Dickson on 11 September 1835 at Gorbals , Glasgow. There were two surviving children of this marriage –
Thomas McCreath (1840-1905) and
John Crawford McCreath (1844-1864).
On Mary’s death, James married Jane Allan on 10 March 1851. They had six children:

Helen Allan McCreath born 6 June 1862
