Thomas McCreath (c.1835-1883) married (i) Margaret Laidlaw (1834-1880) and (ii) Matilda Hadden (c.1845-1903)

Robert McCreath and Barbara Jamieson’s sons, Thomas and Robert, married two sisters, Margaret and Isabella Laidlaw. Thomas followed his father as a Stonemason. Robert became a cooper (a barrel maker) and moved to Burton-on-Trent in England around 1870.

Thomas McCreath and Margaret Laidlaw married in Glasgow on 16 November 1860.  They had 8 children, three of whom died in infancy, and one who did not marry:

Robert McCreath born 16 February 1861, Bridgeton. Unmarried

John McCreath born 21 February 1863, Bridgeton. Died in infancy.

Alice McCreath born 19 March 1864, Hutchesontown. Died in infancy.

Barbara McCreath born 20 May 1866, Cathcart. Died in infancy.

Margaret Laidlaw McCreath born 22 August 1869, Cathcart. Married William Milroy.

Thomas McCreath born 24 October 1872, Cathcart. Married Jessie Higham Milroy.

Isabella Christina Matthews McCreath born 18 January 1875. Married George Beveridge.

James McCreath born April 1878. Married Annie Anderson Gardner.

Margaret Laidlaw died at New Cathcart on 5 June 1880.

Thomas married Matilda Hadden on 13 September 1882 at Old Catchcart.

Thomas and Matilda had a daughter, Annie  McCreath, born 6 October 1882 at Cathcart.  An Annie Hadden McCreath appears on the passenger list of the Edinburgh Castle arriving from Capetown via Durban in Southampton on 1st August 1938. She was 53, a hairdresser, unmarried was unmarried, and was a South African citizen.
