The West End Chip Shop on Young Street was established by Luigi Serafini and his wife Isabella.

The Serafini family hailed from Barga. They came to Inverness not long after the first world war. Prior to moving to Inverness, they were living in Hawick where their son Lorenzo (Renzo) was born in 1915.

Renzo later opened the Locarno Cafe on Academy Street.

When Luigi and his wife retired in the 1950s, Renzo became the owner of the shop which he  leased to his friends Alberto and Rena Simoni.

Shortly after the lease ended, the shop was sold in the 1980s to William Godsman who continued the business for around 20 years until it was sold on to  became a Chinese takeaway. Today (2023) it  is the Fat Buddha Chip Shop and Chinese Takeaway.

Luigi and Isabella returned to Italy after their retirement as did Alberto and Rena after them.

Renzo Serafini also owned a cafe on Harbour Road in the Longman area of Inverness. This was located near the old Inverness College campus and consequently a favoured student  spot.

Renzo died in 2000
