William was born on 5 DEC 1839 in Crosshill, the son of Gilbert McCreath and Jane(Jean) Muir.

He died on 2 FEB 1922 in Burnbank, Girvan.

His wife was Martha Taylor, who he married on 15 NOV 1866 in Galston. Their seven known children were Jessie (1868-1949), Hugh (1869-1953), Annie Dykes (1870-1872), Jean Muir (Jeannie) (1875-1933), George Taylor (1876-1952), William (1880-1958) and Thomas Taylor (1883-1961).
