He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Margaret Forrester. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Margaret (Maggie (1861-1930).
His second wife was Mary Robertson, who he married on 21 SEP 1868 in Tradeston. Their five known children were Ann (1868-1869), James (1870-1870), David (1872-1874), Willia (1876-1920) and Robert (1878-1898).
