His wife was Jane McConnochie, who he married on 11 FEB 1873. The place has not been found. Their seven known children were Mary Caldwell (1873-1876), Robert (1876-?), James (1877-1940), Barbara (1880-1965), Jeanie (1882-1956), William Young (1885-?) and Thomas (1887-1890).
