Gilbert was born on 20 DEC 1861 in Grennock, Renfrewshire, the son of Andrew Park McCreath and Mary McMillan.
His wife was Flora McGallan, who he married on 8 DEC 1884 in Greenock. Their six known children were Gilbert (1889-1961), William McGallan (1891-1957), Andrew (c1893-1917), James (1895-1918), Mary (c1896-?) and Flora (c1898-?).
