Sculptor: Heisenberg (Matt Baker and Dan Dubowitz)

Date: 2002

Location: At corner of Kidston Terrace and Malta Terrace.

Description: The Gatekeeper is the product of Dan Dubovitz and Matt Baker,  known as Heisenberg. Comprising three parts – a suspended sculpture (cast in bronze), a framed picture (illuminated at night) and a small crypt in the foundations underneath the photograph.

The Gatekeeper symbolises the notion of Gorbals as a gateway for Irish, Jewish and Asian immigrant communities over the centuries. Beneath the whole structure lies a crypt containing burned remains of objects donated by members of the Gorbals community.

The artworks, unveiled in 2002, were commissioned by the Crown Street Regeneration Project as part of a programme of rebuilding in the area and improving its image.
