Sculptor: Rob Mulholland

Date: 2016

Location: Richmond Gate, Oatlands – at the junction of Polmadie Road and New Rutherglen Road.

Description: The sculpture is constructed in high grade stainless steel, is over four metres high and weighs over 2,500 kgs.

The finished design reflects the aspirations and future hopes for Oatlands and also reflects on the past heritage of the area. The girl’s profile represents the youth and future of Oatlands. Pages float from her head, each one engraved with names of local places and memories recounted by the older residents. This image of youth looking out towards the community symbolises the continued growth and aspirations for the future generations  and was directly influenced by the input of the children of Oatlands.

In addition to the main sculpture a selection of ten images created by the school children were digitally engraved in stainless steel plate and mounted on the wall around the main sculpture. These images acted as a tangible link to the extensive artistic intervention and collaboration with the community.
