The Northern Fish Restaurant in Forres was taken over by Michele Miele in 1930. His original of ice-cream recipe is sold under the Miele’s of Forres brand, while the Northern Restaurant is the chip shop and cafe where the business was based. Miele’s of Forres is the oldest established ice-cream manufacturer in Moray.
The company provides ice-cream and catering vans for events and make ice-cream cakes for all occasions. Their motto is “often licked but never beaten”
The Miele family emanated from the village of Caira near Cassino in the Frosinone province of Italy. Three generations of the family ran the business, Michele its founder, his son Alessandro (Alex) who took over from 1961 until 1990 when it was passed down to grandson Carlo Miele.
Carlo sold the chip shop and the ice cream business a few years ago, sometime after 2016.
The fish and chip shop at 28 High Street is still in existence under the new ownership.

Michele’s other son Giuseppe owned the Primrose Cafe in Hopeman and established his own ice cream brand, Miele’s of Hopeman.
