Norma Alari, the granddaughter of Amos who started the business, has written a book entitled “Italians of West Fife”.

Included is the story of her Alari’s of Dunfermline.

The Alari name is well known to the thousands who can affectionately recall visiting the family fish and chip shop in Chalmers Street

Amos Alari was born in Tuscany in 1888. The inclusion of his name in the Dunfermline valuation records of 1916 that suggests the approximate time of the shop’s establishment.

Norma’s parents, Donald and Nora Alari, took over the family business – and then her elder brother, Amos – until it was sold in 2016
