Pietro Ferrari and his wife Linda came to Scotland in the 1920s from the mountain village of Borgo Val di Taro in the Apennines.
After living in Aberdeen for several years, the family moved to Inverness in 1936 where they established the Ness Cafe on the banks of the River Ness.
Pietro and Linda’s daughter Gloria eventually took over the cafe with her husband Nino Coffrin. Nino’s cousins Luciano and Ron Bonici joined them as business partners.
In time the business was closed. The date of closure remains to be identified
In 2016, Pietro and Linda’s other daughter, Lucia Leonella married Alexander Longmore in 1958.
In 2016, under her married name, she published a book “From Alien to Italo-Scot”.
In it, Leonella talks about her experiences growing up as a second generation Italian immigrant and the identity crisis that came with it.
She also tells the story of several other Italian families in Inverness
