John Robertson McLean attended Bellahouston Academy where he was a respected player in the School’s football teams and latterly  School Captain  and Dux.

Following Army service in Germany, John undertook a brief spell as a  French teacher in Govan High  before embarking on a successful career as a primary teacher in Stranraer. While at Govan High he married Margaret Livindstone, also a former pupil of Bellahouston Academy. Margaret was a Maths teacher.

A combination of  the offer of housing  by the education authority at a time of acute teacher shortage led to his return with Margaret to the land of his ancestors.  John in due course became headteacher at Rephad Primary and sustained his interest in football by playing for and acting as coach to Stranraer Football Club.

John and Margaret had two children, Anne and Kenneth.

Sadly,  Anne died young.  Margaret also died unexpectedly and is buried at Stranraer.  Kenneth emigrated to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina – where he married Jennifer Holmes. Their Millennium contribution to the family is Ceilidh Ann McLean.
