Sarah McLean (1879-??) married James Keenan (c.1873-??)

Sarah McLean was born on 26 OCT 1879. She married James Keenan.

My father-in-law, Alexander McLean (1908-1990), often spoke fondly of visits to Bonny Braes, a picturesque farm perched high on the steep slopes to the north of Cairnryan.  It was worked by his Aunt Sarah and Uncle Jimmy.

Sarah and Jimmy had two sons –

James McLean Keenan born 11 July 1903, Sandhead. Married Agnes Brown.

John Keenan born 9 July 1906, Sandmill.

After their marriage Jimmy became a Ploughman in Stoneykirk Parish, where his sons were born. In 1911 the family was at Dalminnoch, Inch Parish. They moved to Glasgow  for a spell –  but Sarah pined for the country and they subsequently returned to Wigtownshire to Bonny Braes.

While they were in Glasgow, my wife’s grand-father, Alexander McLean (1884-1967) – then 17 – lodged with his sister, Sarah  It was in Glasgow that Alexander  met his future wife, Georgina Torrance.
