75 – 77 Main Street Callander.

A ‘G. Luti’, hailing from Lucca province, is listed in the Censimento at 75 Main Street Callander.  A son, Bruno Lioni Luti was born at 75 Main Street to Giuseppe and Mariana Luti (ms Corrieri) in April 1919. Sadly the child died age 10 weeks of Whooping Cough.  Giuseppe passed away in 1969.The Lutis are not listed in the 1911 Census; their arrival in Callander most likely being at the end of WW1.

Did Giuseppe’s son Mario take over the business on Giuseppe’s death?

His grandchildren did not follow in his footsteps. For example, his grandson Peter after realising his love of art at school, went on to study ceramics at Duncan of Jordanston College of Art, Dundee and Goldsmiths College, London. He later progressed to lecturing in Art and Design before eventually finishing his teaching career as Head of the Expressive Arts at Glasgow University. Today he owns the Galeria Luti in Callander
