Ricardo Varani has worked in his family business since he was 10 years old, and continues to work hard in the cafe at 37 High Glencairn Street – a local landmark since it opened in 1937.

Ricardo’s  dad and uncle came over from Italy and opened the cafe.

It took its name from the Forum picture house, which showed foreign movies, and it was a traditional Italian ice cream and sweet shop. It had a jukebox and a pool table and has been frequented by everyone from teddy boys to bikers.

The premises have been renovated with a new interior and display window.
