Netta Munro (right) with her sister, Ina.

Jessie Ann (Netta) Munro before her marriage  was a ‘child’s nurse’, living at Moray View.

Netta (age 32) and William Murray (33) were married on 1 August 1938 at Lecropt Kirk.  Given the death of both of her parents in 1930, Lecropt, close to two of her sisters, was an obvious alternative family location.

Netta and Bill moved to the Borders; Bill was a constable at Eddleston Police Station, Preebles.

Netta was admitted to Kingsmeadow Nursing Home, Peebles on 13 February 1940.  Norman Munro Murray was born just before three o’clock in the afternoon.  Some time later Netta was transferred to the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion in Edinburgh.  Neil Munro Murray was born on 14 February at 8.25 pm.  Netta died four days later on 18 February – aged 34.  The death certificate reads: ‘twin pregnancy, retained placenta, shock, septicaemia’.

Following her sister Netta’s passing, my grandmother looked after the twins, until Bill re-married. At the end of her sideboard at 22 Cawder Road, Bridge of Allan, she kept a cherished photograph of her twin nephews.
