Harriet (Hat) Munro was born on 11 April 1893 at Ardersier.
During World War I, Hat and her sister Mary (my grandmother) went to work in a munitions factory at Gretna Green and travelled daily by workers train from Carlisle where they lived for much of the War.
At the end of the hostilities they returned briefly to Ardersier before answering a newspaper advert for a table maid in Stirling (Mary) and a job in Deanston House with “Old Lady Muir” (Hat). They were allowed a night off every second Sunday.
Hat (32) married James (Jimmy) Connelly (34), a worker at Deanston Mill, at the United Free Church Manse in Doune on 17 April 1925. Hat’s address is given as Model Cottages, Sunnylaw, Bridge of Allan. Mary was already married and this was her home. Hat’s bridesmaid was her sister, Netta, whose address was Moray View, Ardersier.
Jimmy and Hat had a son, John (Jackie) Connelly born 1925.
Hat died, age 40, on 9 November 1933 at Stirling Royal Infirmary – when their son, Jackie, was 7 years old.
Jackie lived in Dunblane. He died, age 78, in 2003.
