Elizabeth Alexandra (Bess) Munro was born on 26 January 1901 at Ardersier.
Bess remained single and lived in Moray View till she died. As a young woman, she had sustained an accident to one of her legs, necessitating the wearing of a prosthetic boot, which restricted her mobility.
She ran the local, manually-operated telephone exchange – attached as a lean-to shed on the east gable of the house. In rural areas these small exchanges were tended by caretaker operators, such as Bess. From 1958, the Subscriber Trunk Dialling system was progressively introduced to automate the process – thus making her, and others like, her redundant.
Bess died in 1982.
