Architectural Style: Edwardian Baroque

The school, originally Holmlea Public School,  was designed by Andrew Balfour for the Cathcart Parish School Board.  It opened in1908. The railings around the school’s perimeter are in the Glasgow Style.

It is  Grade B listed. 

The school closed in 2009 when it was merged, as part of Glasgow City Council’s Pre-12 Strategy (Phase 3), with Merrylee Primary, Simshill Primary, Holmlea Nursery Class and Holmlea Day Nursery to form the new build Merrylee Primary (at 50 Friarton Road).

In 2018the Holmlea building was disused and classified as being in poor condition.
