An Impressive array of silverware!

George was a Fitter/ Setter with Rolls Royce in Hillington. He had a passion for betting on horses, and was a regular attender at Glasgow’s several greyhound race tracks. His Military Service was passed as Ground Crew in the RAF, where he achieved success on the football field.

He was also a member of a successful Rolls Royce team

A traditional Scottish winger, he played Junior Football. The pinnacle of his career was a spell with the now defunct, Third Lanark.

By the mid 1960’s George was unmarried and in a rut.  When the Beuhler Corporation of Indianapolis came to Glasgow to recruit  skilled engineeers, he signed up.

He was joined by his friend Bobby Woodrow and both fell in with a crowd of lively and sociable Liverpudlians –  also recruited by Beuhler. The quality of his life was further enhanced when he met and married an American lady, Mildred (Millie) Mobley.  One of Millie’s sons, Renard Alotto, was still at school; the others had already left home. George and Renard soon formed a bond. George could not have been more proud of Renard had he been his own son.

George put his football skills to good use. Coaching the local high school team when ‘soccer’ was still in its infancy in the USA.

He took up employment with Chrysler and became An American citizen in order to be able to work on Federal Government contracts.

George passed away on 8 August 1991 at Indianapolis.  He was survived by Millie.

George’s birthday on 7 March 1989. Renard baked the cake!
