Tim McCreath was born in Berwick Upon Tweed on 31st December 1968.

Educated at Berwick Middle School and Loretto, following a year out in New Zealand post-Loretto, Tim went to Newcastle Polytechnic where he graduated BA (Hons) in Sports Studies.

On leaving Newcastle, Tim joined Ceres(UK)Ltd – now Glencore – in their head office in Thame, where he gained grain trading experience with the International trader /shipper.

After two years he came back to the family business, McCreath Simpson & Prentice Ltd ( a wholly owned subsidiary of Simpsons Malt Ltd).

However, rather than going into the grain merchanting business that his family had built up, he joined the malting side of the parent company. In 1997 Tim became Sales Director before becoming Managing Director in 2004.

(Simpsons Malt is currently the largest privately owned commercial malting company in the UK, and ranks number 13 in the world).

Tim married Maureen Dineen in Elgin in 1998. They have a daughter, Abigail Jane and a son, Finlay. Maureen has a son, Dominic, from a previous marriage.
