According to the Old Tree, David McCreath and Helen Hutcheson had a son (name unknown, designated as No.8). Keith Percy believes that this may well be the David McCreath baptised at Maybole in 1749. The Old Tree further records that the son, No.8, had a son Thomas of Bellesleyhill (OT14), Newton-on -Ayr, who had children James McCreath (OT37), ‘Cowfeeder’ and Charles McCreath (OT38), ‘Farmer’. Fortunately, the old parish registers have enabled this family to be identified from Thomas McCreath (OT 14) downwards.
