William McCreath was born in Glasgow in 1851. He married Jane Finlay Thomson in Johnstone on 28 June 1883. William and Jane had four children:

William was a First Engineer in the Merchant Navy. He died in a hospital in Santos on 22 March 1892. Cause of death Yellow Fever.
In 1901, Jane was living in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire with her four children. the house was named ‘Egremont’ – where two of her children were born.
