It is with great sadness that I record attendance at the funeral of my cousin, Robin Arkle, at Stoney Stratford, Milton Keynes on Tuesday 7th February 2017.
Robin passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 24th January.
Robin’s mother, my aunt, Margaret Shaw (Peggy) McCreath (1912- 1959) was the only daughter of the nine children of James McCreath and Margaret Strickland Shaw.
‘Aunt Peggy’ married Douglas Gordon Arkle (1908-1990) on 23 December 1939 at Cathcart, Glasgow. Their twin sons, Douglas Crofts Arkle and Robert McCreath Arkle were born in Dumfries 1943, where their father’s career as a Sanitary Inspector began. Douglas Snr., later became Chief Sanitary Inspector for the Burgh of Arbroath, where the twins spent their formative years.
Robin’s artistic talent took him first to Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and then to the Royal College of Art in London. Following a period of teaching at St Martin’s College, he joined the BBC in London as a Graphics Artist, where he met his wife, Sue. The couple moved to Stony Stratford, where their children Jamie and Katie were born.
Robin is survived by his brother, Doug, of Stourport upon Severn; his wife Sue and children, Jamie and Katie.
