IMG_2165Sculpture: Andy Scott

Date: 2018

Location:   Argyle Street at the junction with Elliot Street

Description:

The completed statue – which was created in clay before it was cast into bronze – weighs three tons, is 2.8m (9ft) tall and sits on a 2.2m (6.5ft) plinth.

It  depicts the artist sitting on the iconic high-backed chair he designed for Glasgow’s Agyle Street Tea Rooms. The statue faces west from a part of Argyle Street which was reinstated during a 10-year renovation project that saw many 1960s blocks demolished and replaced with some 500 new, affordable homes.  The artwork was commissioned by the builder – Sanctuary.

It was unveiled in 2018, by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon – 150 years after the birth of one of Scotland’s most iconic architects.
