Rifleman Khan in the ‘Victor’ comic, 1965

Close inspection of the text in this boys’ adventure comic shows a departure from historical accuracy in a number of ways – not least of all in its depiction of an open water channel (more like the Scheldt than the Sloe); the craft (more like American DUKWs than Goatley canvas assault boats) and the depiction of the preparedness of the German garrison for the attack.

This apart Rifleman Khan’s role is fairly accurately portrayed.
