The Cameronians were awarded “The Freedom of Lanark”. This honorary title is very much like an honorary citizenship. Muldoon and Khan walked ahead of the parade.

Khan’s Dickin Medal was awarded on March 27th, 1945. The citation reads:

“For rescuing L/Cpl. Muldoon from drowning under heavy shell fire at the assault of Walcheren, November 1944, while serving with the 6th Cameronians (SR).”

In 1965, some twenty years after the action, Rifleman Khan’s bravery was featured in the ‘Victor’ comic.

In 2021, a bronze cast memorial was erected at Strathaven.
