Ten members of my family returned to Zeeland for  the liberation commemoration ceremonies in 2017 and to take part in the Mallard Walk.  For some of us it was the first walk, for the  others the second:

Douglas McCreath (2nd), Euan McCreath (2nd), Roderick McCreath (2nd), Kate McCreath (1st), Iain McCreath (2nd), Gordan McCreath (2nd), Val Ormiston (1st), Jenni Ormiston (1st), Douglas Ormiston (1st), Stephanie Clarke (1st).

For the ‘veterans’ it was great renew friendships forged a year earlier.

My family was again honoured to be invited to lay a wreath in tribute to the men of the 52nd Lowland Division at the Sloedam memorial. We also laid crosses brought with us and made by the Cameronian Family and Friends Association.

Again we were privileged to be allowed to join the convoy from Sloedam to Vlissingen – though we might have been forgiven for not recognising Tommie de Kok in his guise as Captain Mainwaring of Dad’s Army!!

An excursion to Veere on Sunday completed the visit. For some however, following a boisterous party at the Museum on Saturday evening, this was a somewhat subdued affair.

We have already begun planning the 6 km. Mallard Walk of October 2018. Anyone interested in joining us let me know and I’ll send you the details.
