The Fish and Chip Shop in Newtonmore was run by Alberto (Albert) Volante – the Great Uncle of Lorenzo Volante.
The Volante family hailed from the village of Villa Latina (Frosinone Province).
The business was known locally as “Albert’s”.
Albert was a supporter of the local shinty team Newtonmore Camanachd Club, he donated a trophy for the team called the Volante Cup.
Albert was assisted by his two siblings – Chrissy (Serafina) and Elvira Volante.
Their brother Guiseppe (Joe) and his wife Filomena (Flo) ran a similar business in the neighbouring town of Kingussie.

The old A9 road went directly through Newtonmore so there was plenty of passing trade from those travelling to and from places such as Inverness, Perth, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

The shop was sold around the time of the construction the A9 bypass.
Upon retirement, the three siblings returned to Italy to live in the village of Villa Latina, where they grew up.
Albert. He spent his final years living with his wife Julia across the ‘Cocicaria’ in Picinisco.
