Thomas McCreath (OT14) married Ann Gibson. The Ayr registers record Thomas as a farmer in Burnmouth, two and a half miles NE of Maybole. Later he moved to Bellesley Hill, Newton-on -Ayr -where he is recorded on the 1841 Census:
Thomas McCreath 65 Farmer Bellesley Hill Newton on Ayr
Ann McCreath 70
Thomas McCreath 35 Cattle Dealer
Marion McCreath 30 Dairy Servant
Again, according to Keith Percy, Thomas’s age of 65 implies a date of birth of 1770-1775 (since ages on the census are usually to the nearest 5 years below actual). This fits in well with the Old Tree. Thomas does not appear on the 1851 Census, presumably having died between 1841 and 1851.
Two of his sons, James McCreath and Charles McCreath, moved to Glasgow.
His son, Thomas McCreath, ran the sizeable 240 acres farm. Daughter Marion McCreath remained single, helping on the farm.
Children of Thomas McCreath and Ann Gibson:
Thomas McCreath born 20 October 1803
Marion McCreath born 20 June 1805
James McCreath born 23 March 1807
Charles McCreath born 21 April 1809. Married Isabella Bowman.
