The Castle Cafe at Halfway, Cardonald was owned by my son-in-law Michael’s grandparents – Camillo (Cammie) Pagliari and Teresa Pagliari (ms Jannetta). They were assisted by their son, Luigi Enrico Pagliari and daughter, Nina.
Cammie made his own ice-cream, winning the Coupe d’Honneur at the 1937 Exposition in Paris.
He brought Angela Vettraino over from Belmonte Castello in the late 1950s to work as a cafe assistant. In due course, Angela and her husband, William Laurie opened their own Fish Restaurant, The Plaice – also at Halfway.
Michael’s father and mother, Luigi (Lui) Enrico Pagliari and Giovanna Marianna (Nina) Visocchi opened up the Bungalow Cafe at Dumbreck Road.
