Peggy McCreath was the only daughter of the nine children of James McCreath and Margaret Strickland Shaw who survived into adulthood.
Peggy married Douglas Gordon Arkle (1908-1990) on 23 December 1939 at Battlefield West Church, Glasgow. The couple moved to Galashiels where Douglas Arkle was appointed Assistant Burgh Surveyor and Sanitary Inspector.
Their twin sons, Douglas Crofts Arkle and Robert McCreath Arkle were born in Dumfries 1944. Douglas Snr., later became Chief Sanitary Inspector for the Burgh of Arbroath, where the twins spent their formative years.
The artistic talents of both twins led them to Dundee’s Duncan of Jordonstone College. Both subsequently moved to England to seek work.
Robert (Robin) McCreath married Susan Stewardson and had two children – Jamie Stewardson Arkle (b. 1988) and Katie McCreath Arkle (b. 1992).
His twin, Douglas, did not marry.
