James McCreath was born on 27 April 1903 at 386 South York Street, Glasgow. As the eldest son, played an influential role in shaping the attitudes and outlook of the family.
He married Cathie McKenna on 8 July 1930 at Cathcart Old Church. They were 27 and 25 respectively. James was a Wallpaper Salesman. His family were still resident at 241 Greenhead Street, which was his given domicile. His brother, Bill, was the best man, also resident at Greenhead Street.
Their long-term family home was 171 Ashcroft Drive, Croftfoot.

A large part of James’ working life was spent in a supervisory post in the Darwin Wallpaper Company in Glasgow.
His son Kenneth married Trudie Hamilton in 1957 and had a daughter, Carole Inge Hamilton McCreath. Amongst other careers, was a lecturer at the then College of Commerce. Later, Kenneth and Trudie divorced.
Carole married Timothy Meek on 29 June 1978 at Ayr. This marriage also ended in divorce. Carole then married Andrew Smith on 31 March 1988. Carole and Andrew have a son, Max Cameron Smith
Laura married John Murchie, an Arran farmer in 1967, and had two daughters Lorraine (born 1968) and Alison (born 1970). Sadly John passed away in 2016.
Lorraine married Brian Powers. They have two sons – Jack Powers born 2000 and Cameron Peter Powers born 2002.
