In the 1933 Censimento, a D. Ostacchini is listed as a shopkeeper at Main Street, Grangepans, Bo’ness.

Daniele Ostacchini (35) is listed in the 1911 Census at 3 Parkview, Bo’ness as an “Ice cream, fish, potato dealer”.  The household comprised his wife, Adelina and son, Elilio. Others listed as shop assistants were – Domenico Ostacchini (48), Bartolomeo Ostacchini (44), Davide Ostacchini (38), Angelo Ostacchini (20) shop assistants. Were they brothers or cousins?

A son Giovanni was born at Main Street in 1913. The birth certificate gives the date and place of his parents’ marriage as 8 February 1906, Italy.

According to an Ancestry tree, Daniele passed away at Valdena (*) on 23 March 1960.

It has not yet been established whether any of his off-spring succeeded him in the business, nor when the shop closed. The building at the corner of Main Street and Cairn Lane in which the shop was located was swept away in the refurbishment of Bo’ness, though Cairn Lane still exists.
