5 Kenneth Street, Stornoway.

Peter Scaramuccia and his wife Maria opened the Coffee Pot in 1969.

On their retirement, the business closed (February 2016).

The new owner of the Coffee Pot plans to convert the premises into a decorator’s shop.

Peter’s parents earlier ran the Lido Cafe on Cromwell Street. His mother, Mary Cabrelli, came from another well-known local Italian family.

Peter’s grandfather, Louie Scaramuccia, and a brother arrived in Stornoway in 1922.

The family set up businesses in a few different sites in the town from a Fish and Chip Shop on Church Street, to insurance premises next to the old Clachan bar before purchasing the building which would become the Lido Cafe.

The Coffee Pot’s closure marked the end of an era.  It was the last surviving Scots-Italian cafe in the Western Isles.
