Lemetti’s Fish and Chip Shop has become a landmark in Camelon’s Main Street over the years, having been established by Luigi Lemetti back in 1895 when he arrived from Tuscany via London.

The shop soon became one part of an ‘empire’ that included a newsagents, a cafe and hairdressing salon.

Luigi and his wife, Madalena, had five children, John, Alfred, Joseph, Dora and Rena, and when they grew up they were all involved in Lemetti businesses.

The business was passed on to Luigi’s son, ‘Joe senior’.

‘Joe senior’ and his wife, Emilia, raised their three children, Joe junior, Irene and Michael.

Joe and Michael followed in the footsteps of their dad and grandad, taking over the running of the fish and chip bar in 1988.  They ran it until 2016, when health issues concerning both brothers  forced .the family to sell up.

The shop was bought by Gino and Gloria Notarangelo who built up their own successful, award-winning family chippy La Gondola in Grangemouth. It will retain the Lemetti name under Gino and Gloria’s ownership.

The shop is run by Dylan Vettraino who in 2016 won the Falkirk Herald Chippy of the Year Award in the first year of his tenure.
