The detailed Zavaroni genealogy has yet to be established. It is believed that the family originated from Genoa.
A ‘Caesar Zavaroni, Ice Cream Dealer’ is listed in the 1933 Censimento at Holytown, Lanarkshire.
In 1951,Caesar Zavaroni (Ice Cream/ Sweets) is also listed as a shop owner at 74 Ardbeg Road, Rothesay.
Were these one and the same? Alemanno Zavaroni (born 1930) (father of the singer, Lena) and Victor Alfredo Zavaroni (born 1939) were brothers. The name of their father has yet to be found.
Today, Victor’s daughter, Margaret, runs the Cafe Zavaroni at 13 Albert Place. One of three businesses still bearing the Zavaroni name.
The others are Zavaroni’s Cafe 20 Argyle Street and A. Zavaroni’s Fish and Chicken Bar 12 E. Princes Street. The present owner of the latter is Colin Cuthbert.
