In the 1920’s, Carlo and Maria Cardosi, together with their four sons left their native Barga to live and work in Paisley.

The family first opened a fish & chip shop in the west end of Paisley followed swiftly by the renowned “Cardosi’s Café” in Causeyside Street, where it remained for fifty years. Unfortunately, due to the ill health, retirement and the deaths of the brothers the café closed in the late 80’s.

In 2002 Riccardo & Stefano, great grandchildren of  Carlo & Maria opened Cardosi’s Restaurant located in Storie Street in the historic town centre of the town.

In 2017, the Cardosi brothers, opened a new 120-seat restaurant covering the entire ground-floor unit in the former Arnotts department store, in what is being hailed as a sign of the town’s centre’s “ongoing rebirth”.

The restaurant is part of a much bigger development on the Gauze Street site, with 11 luxury apartments on the upper floors overlooking Paisley Abbey and Town Hall.
