The Cosmo Chicken Bar at 934 Govan Road, formerly the Cosmo Cafe, was run by the Franchi family from the 1930s.  Ugo Franchi (then 66), the last owner, in an interview for The Herald in 2007 provides a graphic description of the ways in which places like Govan have changed over the years:

“It used to be like the cafe in Happy Days. Kids would come in and drink Coke and play the jukebox. The place was always buzzing and there were no drugs and no drink.” Franchi admits business has declined dramatically: until two years ago he employed two staff; now he works alone. “I’ve got older customers who tell me they’re too scared to come out at night, they’ll only come in during the day,” he says. “When I was young we had more respect for our elders. You never heard of a youngster mugging a pensioner. Drugs have changed that.”
