(ix) Joan Haggart (1885 – 1895) Died young.

Sadly, three of this family passed away young.

Their second child, John, Died in  infancy in January 1865 ( aged roughly 15 months).   His certificate records the cause of death as bronchitis (some days) and convulsions (some hours).  One possible explanation could have been febrile convulsions following infection.  Mary Ann, the first-born, would then  have been a toddler – a month off her third birthday.  The anguish of this loss to the young couple would have been tempered by the birth of their third child, William, in September of the same year.

In 1880, Mary Ann passed away – aged 18.  The cause of death is given as Phthisis.

Isabella, the couple’s seventh child, died in 1891, age 14, of ‘Atrophy’ a muscle-wasting condition.

In 1895, Joan, the family’s youngest child also passed away – aged 10. Once more the cause of death is recorded as Phthisis Pulmonalis (or, as the disease is now known, Pulmonary Consumption or TB).

To date, no marriage or death certificate has been found for Isabella.
