My name is Douglas McCreath.  Now retired, I was an Assistant Principal of a Teacher Training College in Glasgow. My working life began as a teacher of geography.

I have three children  and three grand-children. Sadly, my wife Gina passed away in 2003. She was a Consultant Radiologist.

Our McCreaths are a sept of the Clan Macrae, whose ancestral home is Eilean Donan Castle.

For twenty years and more, I have been researching the family history of my branch of our ‘clan’.  In so doing I have documented a number of  other branches for which, largely due to the fragmented nature of The Old Parish Registers, it has not been possible to consolidate into one unified tree (though without question they are inter-related).

Other related areas of interest include:

  • The 7th Cameronians in World War II, my father’s regiment.
  • The Italians in Scotland, stimulated by my Italian son-in-law
