A significant number of Jacob McLean’s descendants have, even to the present day, remained on the farms of Wigtownshire.  This continuity is perhaps best seen in the family of the eldest son, William (born 11 June 1838 at Killintringan, Portpatrick; died 28 November 1920, Awhirk, Stoneykirk).

William, a Farm Labourer, married Charlotte Wilson at West Muntloch, Kirkmaiden on the 24 October 1861.

Initial researches had revealed three of their children – James McLean, John Todd McLean and William McLean.  A further four, Agnes McLean, Elizabeth McLean, Jane McLean and Alexander Todd McLean, were identified through charts received from Nelson McLean, who  for some considerable time has been engaged in tracing Jacob’s descendants.
