She married William Preston, (then a Ploughman, later a Game Keeper) on 30 March 1876 at Dumbreddan, Stoneykirk.

William died, age 62, at Alexandria, Dumbarton on 13 September 1918. At the yime of his death he was a Laundry Vanman. His son, Alexander (residence Clydebank) was the informant.
Sarah returned to Wigtownshire where she died – at Barrhill, Stoneykirk on 14 November 1938.
Sarah had a stone erected in memory of her parents in Stoneykirk Old Churchyard:
