James (Jimmy) McLean was born on 24 April 1910 at 260 Craig Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow (later re-named Cowie Street).

Jimmy was a Railway Porter when he married married Annie (Nan) Allan in 1933. He served in the Army during World War Two and was stationed in Egypt.

Following a war-time divorce, he married Annie (Nan) Rankin and resided at 18 Merrick Terrace,  Portpatrick.

There were no children of either marriage.

Post-war. Jimmy became a Sales Representative for SW Scotland for Bulloch Lade Whisky (part of DCL Ltd). His lively, out-going personality suited him well for the job. He could be relied upon to provide a bottle of Bulloch Lade for family celebrations.

James McLean died in 1974 at Portpatrick.

Symbolically, given the mist which surrounds his grandfather Jacob’s Irish connection, 18 Merrick Terrace high above the village, looks out over the North Channel to Ulster.
